Another month and another Matrix wrist watch, or so it would seem, but when watches are as beautifully retro and yet deliciously minimal as this Matrix MO396 you really ought not to be surprised to find us picking up on it with great aplomb (relatively speaking, of course - we wouldn’t want to over exert ourselves, now would we?).

Once again, as with the other Matrix wrist watches we’ve feature here on TFTS, the MO396 certainly won’t astound you with a plethora of functions – and an instruction manual to match - as this is a watch that’s been designed to serve as a wrist based timepiece and little else. And, accordingly, what you get is the time, the date and an alarm and, well, that’s pretty much it - though it wouldn’t surprise us if there’s a teleportation function tucked away in there somewhere.

No, where the MO396 watch positively excels is in its distinctive minimalist retro styling and its somewhat chunky proportions that lead us to suspect that it could probably survive a direct hit from a nuclear warhead (ok, so that’s patently not going to be the case, but that’s certainly the impression it’s considerable form factor gives).
More than capable of making a statement, the Matrix MO396 wrist watch retails for around $97 / £48 / €63.
