Call of Duty 4 Box

According to sales figures based on findings from the research firms NPD Group, Chart Track and the GFK Group, last years biggest selling computer game was not Bioshock or Halo 3 but Activision’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

Whilst Halo 3 purportedly managed to clear over £84 million ($170 million) within 24 hours of its release (claiming the record for the greatest money made in a single day from the release of an entertainment title – a record previously claimed by Spiderman 3), Activision’s Call of duty 4: Modern Warfare managed to creep up on Halo 3 regardless of being launched some six weeks after the aforementioned title to gain the much celebrated mantle of the top selling game in ’07 having cleared a staggering 7 million units.

Good news for Activision and Infinity Ward, certainly, though it’s not all good news as word on the grapevine is that, rather than follow on from COD4’s modern theme the next COD title will be reverting back to WWII.

Needless to say, we hope these rumours prove to be wholly unfounded.
