If an SD memory card with built in Wi-Fi connectivity, such as the previously featured Eye-Fi SD Card, isn’t quite what you’re looking for but you would like an SD card that offers a little more in the way of versatility then MPIO’s newly announced USD memory card could be of interest.
The MIPO device not only functions as a standard SD memory card but, cleverly, also serves as a USB flash memory device which simply clips out of the SD shaped housing – thus allowing you to upload images from digital cameras, for instance, without having to resort to card readers.

Launched at the time of writing to the Korean market, but sure to make an appearance in the wider world in the next few months, the MPIO USD Memory Card comes with either L-Type or T-Type specifications and a suggested retail price of 19,900 Won for the 1GB capacity card (which is around $22 / £11 / €15).
Incidentally, by way of a footnote, a couple of readers have been kind enough to point out that SD card with built in USB connectivity are nothing new as SanDisk brought out a SD Card – known as the SanDisk Ultra II – with integral USB functionality a few years back, as shown below (thanks Sally, Iain).

Haven’t I seen a similar thing from Sandisk?
Only Sandisk’s is nice in that the SD part just flips away and it plugs in. Keeps me from losing the SD part.
Yep, Lisa’s right, Sandisk released their ‘SD Plus’ cards a few years back that feature an in-built USB connector.
They’re part of the Ultra range of higher-speed cards that Sandisk produce.
Lisa/Iain,
Many thanks for the heads up – I missed this SanDisk card but will add to the above post having looked up these cards.
Many thanks for bringing these to my attention – much appreciated.
