With the growing trend of entertainment device consolidation showing no signs of abating, Sony have just launched their new HES-V1000 Home Entertainment Server which comes complete with and integral 500GB capacity HDD and a CD/DVD/BluRay auto changer capable of storing up to 200 discs that can be made available at a moments notice.
Aimed squarely at those who fall very much on the side of BluRay in the ongoing HD Disc format wars, the Sony HES-V1000 Home Entertainment Server offers full 1080p HD compliance as well as Dolby Digital and DTS audio output whilst having enough internal memory capacity to store up to 137 hours of MPEG2/MPEG4 video, 40,000 songs or 20,000 digital photos (i.e.., considerably more than their previously featured HDMS-S1D Digital Photo Album which has a mere 80GB of capacity, but remains seriously desirable all the same).
Notable features include the addition of X-Applications which, according to Sony, utilises ‘sophisticated face-recognition technology and syncs transitions with music selected by the user from his or her library’ as well as X-Scrapbook (as featured on the aforementioned HDMS-S1D Digital Photo Album) which ‘offers a compelling slide show that the device automatically arranges in a very fast timeframe to explore your memories in a personalized digital scrapbook’. And, for those of you who already own a Bravia HDTV, the HES-V1000 Home Entertainment Server also comes with a one-touch HDMI-CEC function which will take care of connectivity issues with a single button press.

Capable of burning as well as playing DVDs (in +R, +RW, -R and –RW formats) and offering optical and coaxial audio output as well as x2 composite and x2 S-Video inputs, x2 analogue outputs, an xD-Picture Card/Compact Flash/SD/STD Mini card reader the HES-V1000 Home Entertainment Server has been designed to hook up to just about everything you can throw at it though, unlike the previously featured SE2 Labs ITC One Home Entertainment Server you can (naturally) forget about an integral xBox 360 console (or, for that matter, even the option of including a PS3 into the equation).
Sony’s HES-V1000 Home Entertainment Server will set you back a cool $3500 – which, incidentally, makes it substantially cheaper than the SE2 Labs ITC One device.
