The moment we came across this minimalist beauty the sci-fi classic 2001 immediately sprang to mind on account of the fact that this LaCie Hard Drive looks decidedly monolithic thanks to its mirrored black, otherwise featureless aesthetics which, depending on your stylistic sensibilities, you’re sure to either positively love or hate.
Designed by Neil Poulton, LaCie’s monolithic designer hi-speed USB 2.0 external hard disk drive comes with either 320GB, 750GB or a whopping 1TB of storage capacity and, thanks to relying on passive, fanless internal cooling is virtually silent during operation.

The 7800rpm drive, which measures in at a compact 4.6 x 7.6 x 1.8 inches and weighs just 950 grams, comes with 8MB of internal cache memory, and a data transfer rate of up to 180Mbits per second (60MB/s) with a burst transfer rate of 30-35MB/s and is compatible with both Windows and Mac based operating systems and, in addition to its startlingly non-fussy design, we especially like the fact that the device also comes with a blue LED strip mounted on its underside that produces a cool glowing effect on your desk.
The LaCie External Hard Disk Drive comes bundled with LaCie’s ‘1-click’ backup software, making backing up your essential data a breeze, and retails for around $200 / $250 / $400 for the 320GB, 750GB and 1TB versions respectively.
