Standalone DVD burners are by no means a revelation, but what sets apart Cannon new DW-100 DVD Burner is the fact that not only will is burn standard video directly from your camcorder to DVD, without the need of a computer, but it will also support hassle free HD video burning direct to disc.

Due to become available some time in March 2008, Cannon’s DW-100 DVD Burner, which comes complete with a USB 2.0 port enabling it to connect to a PC or Mac if required, will burn discs in either MPEG-2 video file format or in HD as long as the associated files use the AVCHD codec – thus allowing you to play back the resulting DVDs on the majority of Blu-Ray players as well as your PS3 console.

Promising one-touch recording, at the time of writing Canon are yet to release pricing details.
