Not content with just displaying your digital imagery in the form of a slideshow, this new 12” Digital Photo Frame from Edge also comes complete with an integral MP3 player complimented by on board speakers allowing you to add a suitable backing track, or perhaps, even a commentary as your selected images transition from one to another – but just how long it’ll be before you opt to disable this (potentially irritating) feature is quite another matter.
Certainly we can see that adding MP3 player functionality to a digital picture frame initially seems like a reasonable idea, but, in all honesty, we’re not especially convinced that it’s a function that will prove especially appealing in the fullness of time – after all, call us traditionalists, but personally we prefer our picture frames to be seen and not heard (if we wanted an engrossing AV experience we’d capture video footage to play back on a TV).

Still, if the idea of having a carefully chosen backing track looping over and over in the background courtesy of on board speakers as your images transition from one to another appeals to you, or you like the idea of adding some kind of suitably nauseating commentary to you holiday snaps compilation, this device from Edge at least gives you the option – though whether each separate image can be set to trigger the playing of a specific MP3 recording remains wholly unclear.
Retailing for around $130 and Featuring a 800 x 600 resolution display, the Edge 12” MP3 Enhanced Digital Photo Frame, whilst not appearing to come with internal memory, will accept a host of plug in memory devices, (SD Memory Cards, MultiMedia (MMC) Cards, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, IBM Microdrive, and Type I/II Compact Flash (CF) Cards as well as USB flash drives), and supports AVI, BMP, JPEG, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, WAV, and WMA media file formats.
Incidentally, if you’re looking for digital photo frames with extended functionality you may also find this digital photo frame weather station combo of interest.
