Rise and Shine with Philips Digital Picture Frame Alarm Clock with Integral MP3 & Radio

We previously featured the Cubino 1GB Photo Display Alarm Clock which, in all honesty, somehow failed to get our pulses racing and, when you look at this new Philips Digital Picture Frame Alarm Clock, we feel all the more sure that the Cubino deserved our reservations as Philips’ take on digital photo frame alarm clocks is an altogether more inspiring and well-rounded affair – as might be expected.

The Philips AJL308 certainly has all bases covered in offering not only standard alarm clock functions but also a 7 inch integral digital photo frame – which will display slideshows of your images and will even play video clips – as well as a FM/AM digital radio with 20 presets and MP3 compatibility, allowing you to wake up to your favourite playlist rather than some innocuous EuroPop on Fab FM.

The device accepts MP3 files either via a PC or directly via a memory stick courtesy of an inbuilt USB connection as well as offering the facility to accept SD and MMC memory cards.

Perhaps we’re being picky here but we would ideally have liked the unit to also serve as a weather station allowing you to begin planning your wardrobe for the day before dragging yourself from your bed – much in the same way as this highly desirable weather station digital picture frame combo. But perhaps that’s asking a little too much for a device that measures a mere 3.6(L) x 6.6(H) x 8.2(W) inches, though including such functionality in future models would, we suspect, be something Philips would consider.

Interestingly, according to Crave (duly credited), who spoke with a Philips PR rep, it seems that the AJL308 isn’t even supposed to be available at this time even though the likes of Amazon has been selling the unit for a few months.

The Philips AJL308 7-Inch Digital Picture Frame Radio & MP3 Alarm Clock retails for $130 though, if you’re looking for a similar device geared towards the office, you may find this Digital Photo Frame Desktop Alarm Clock of interest (which, whilst hardly providing full blown weather station capabilities does at least offer a thermometer).
