Memorex MMP8551 Round MP3 Player

On the basis that this digital audio player is small and devoid of a display the inevitable comparisons with Apple’s iPod shuffle abound, but apart from the aforementioned similarities, it seems wholly unfair to cite this tiny Memorex Pink MP4 Player as in any way being Shuffle-like, as such blanket pigeonholing merely serves to ignore what a very differently styled device - though, in fairness, if ever there were a digital music player that’s worth ignoring this is most certainly it.

Measuring in at a mere 2.3 x 2.3 x 0.8 inches, the Memorex MMP8115 MP3 player, apart from being decidedly pink, offers 512MB of onboard storage capacity (enough for 124 tunes in MP3 128kbps format), offers just MP3 and WAV file format compatibility and ‘boasts’ a battery life of up to 10-12 hours.

And that’s pretty much it. There’s no mention of the functions available, so it’s safe to assume that, like the player itself, they are wholly minimal – and the fact that the official product website lists the player’s ‘hold/lock’ button as a feature worth detailing patently confirms that, from a feature-set perspective, there’s little on offer here.

Quite who this rather insipid MP3 player is aimed at is hinted by the fact that, rather than offer even a hint at the unit’s pricing, the product site merely points you in the direction of Toys R Us (without even so much as a link).

We’ll say no more.
