FujiFilm FinePix F480 8MP X4 Optical Zoom Compact Digital Camera

FujiFilm’s new FinePix F480 8 Megapixel compact digital camera has at last hit stores and, as can be expected with any new FinePix release, is causing quite a stir – but what exactly does FujiFilm’s new digital camera have on offer?

Announced back on 28 July of this year, the FinePix F480 sports the same metal body as the company’s more expensive F series stable-mates and is touted by FujiFilm as being an ‘easy to use all-rounder’ offering a ‘ quality feature set at an affordable price’.

The F480, which measures in at a mere 23mm in thickness, comes with a wide-angle 28-112mm x4 zoom lens, a 2.7” 230,000 resolution LCD with anti-glare coating as well as 10 pre-programmed scene modes ensuring that you spend your time snapping rather than fiddling with capture settings – and this is very much the appeal of the device.

Coming very much from a point-and-shoot perspective, according to Adrian Clarke, Director of Phot for FuliFilm the F480 is aimed with those looking to move up a level firmly in mind – ‘its compact enough to fit in a pocket, yet versatile enough to be a trusted accessory for everything from family parties to walking holidays’.

And, to that end, not only does the F480 offer the aforementioned 10 pre-programmed scene modes but it also sports FujiFilm’s recently redesigned and simple to use, predominantly icon driven Graphical User Interface which offers a brief explanation of each and every setting as scene and shooting modes are selected ensuring that you can make informed choices according to the type of picture being taken and the prevailing lighting conditions.

The FujiFilm F480, which accepts either xD or SD memory cards in order to supplement its rather meagre 128MB on onboard memory is available in silver or black and retails for around $150 - though people interested in this particular tier of digital cameras may prove tempted by Sony’s impressive CyberShot T2 instead.
