ViTiny Fun 50 Handheld Digital Magnifier Camera

ViTiny Fun 50 Handheld Digital Magnifier Camera

Whist we’ve featured a couple of USB based microscopes previously here on TFTS, the ViTiny digital magnifier (which looks like some ’80s handheld gaming device) differs in that, whilst also being USB compatible so as to allow the viewing of images via your PC, it can also function as a stand alone, handheld device thanks to its integral 1.8” 65k colour TFT screen.

Ideal for hobbyists or anyone looking to hone in on detail, the ViTiny handheld digital magnifier basically consists of a super macro digital camera enhanced with up to x95 digital zoom which, whilst not being anywhere near the x200 zoom levels offered by the previously mentioned USB microscopes, is more than enough when compared to run of the mill handheld magnifying glasses (against which this product is obviously designed to compete).

One area the ViTiny falls down on, however, is the resolution of its captures – a mere 320 x 240 – which strikes us as being rather curious considering that the devices camera resolution is touted as being 640 x 480. Still, on the plus side, the device comes with an integral 3x LED lighting unit that will ensure that your subject is well lit, even in failing light, and it even comes with inbuilt image effects such as grey, emboss and inverse – though quite how useful these will prove to be in day to day use is wholly open to question (especially at such poor resolutions).

By no means a replacement for traditional or even USB based microscopes, if you’re looking for a highly portable, digital take on the traditional magnifying glass which will also allow you to store up to twenty images for uploading to PC, the ViTiny Fun 50 is undoubtedly up to the job. However, those looking for anything but rudimentary image capture are certain to find this gadget, at least in terms of the quality of its image capture, somewhat lacking.

The ViTiny Fun 50 Handheld Digital Magnifier Camera retails for 275,000 South Korean Won – which is approximately $269 at the time of writing.
