We would urge to you view this video as it’s not often that we come across a new web technology that not only absolutely amazes us but that, we feel, could potentially have far reaching implications as far as web browsing is concerned, but this new dynamic, content aware image resizing technology developed by Dr. Ariel Shamir and Dr. Shai Avidan very much looks to be the future as far as displaying web based imagery across multiple screen resolutions is concerned.
The technology, allows for the continuous resizing of images whilst adapting the image content and layout (known as re-targeting) by utilising vertical and horizontal seams which, in essence, remove less important details from the image via a dynamic algorithm allowing the image to be made bigger or smaller, or even resized in a wholly non-uniform manner according the either the space available or user inputs.
The below video offers a brief though highly informative and extremely impressive demonstration as to how the technology works in practice as well as offering a host of examples of this breathtaking new content aware dynamic image resizing technology in action (which includes on the fly removal of people according to image sizing which really needs to be seen to be believed).
