This curious electronic gadget – which reminds us of Davros from the Doctor Who TV series – has been developed as an educational gadget for children though we suspect that it could also serve as an ideal last minute party guest to take up a vacant chair at the dinner table (who would then serve to totally dominate the conversation).
The device, known as Brian the Brain, comes complete with the entire Encyclopedia Britannica stored in its memory as well as a dictionary and a complete world history time line and utilises voice recognition technology to interact with children who will no doubt want to pick Brain’s expansive electronic Brain in their thirst for facts, figures and someone to help with their homework who actually knows what they’re talking about for a change.
Not only that, but Brian the Brain can also interact on a more personal level to the point where it will even act to engage your children with small talk – such as enquiring as to their likes and dislikes and even telling jokes (the responses to which Brian will store and use to further personalise his speech and subject matter in subsequent interactions).
And, as if that’s not enough, Brian the Brain will also store telephone numbers which, when he is connected to the phone line, will allow Brian to act as your children’s personal telephone operator who will dial friends and family with a simple verbal command before passing the call onto the child.

Still not impressed? How about the fact that Brian the Brain will even entertain you and your children with a series of memory and trivia games and, just for good measure, also serves as a clock, a calendar and can even be hooked up to an MP3 digital music player so music can be played courtesy of Brian’s internal speaker.
It really is a remarkable educational electronic gadget that’s sure to keep your children/party guests entertained for hours on end – to the point which we would fear being left standing in the corner feeling totally superfluous and actually rather thick.
Brian the Brain, who also comes with a integrated, retractable mini keyboard, is available from Hammacher Schlemmer for $119.95.

I saw that thing up there earlier today, and something about it gave me the creeps. It sorta looks like the aliens from Mars Attacks doesn’t it?
Hi Technabob,
lol – I assumed you’d seen it and yes, that’s exactly what it looks like (thanks for the picture link) – far more so than Davros
I’m considering getting one, if only so that it can talk to the wife (on a side note she’s a teacher and I suspect that this is right up her street).
