Corsair USB Flash Drive with PIN Lock

Thanks in no small part to USB Flash Drives, it has become so easy to carry such large amounts of data around with you these days that the loss or theft of a USB memory stick can have far reaching implications – on and above just the loss of personal files. And with identity theft on the increase, and showing no signs of abating, it seems wise to take precautions to protect your data lest it fall into the wrong hands, be it through accidental misplacement or another’s sticky fingers.

There are, of course, various measures you can take to secure your data, all of which arguably are by no means wholly infallible in the event of your flash drive falling into the hands of someone with know how and determination, ranging from various degrees of file encryption (probably the hardest to circumvent), to password protection, to biometric locking and, as in the case of this particular Corsair USB flash drive, a PIN lock.

The premise is simple in that all you need to do to secure your data is to remove the drive from your computer at which point the memory stick auto-locks, the correct entry of your chosen PIN being required to re-access the file contained therein.

We don’t doubt that such protection may well serve to protect your data against the casual thief but whether Corsair’s PIN enabled USB flash drive is wholly secure when faced with a determined hacker is highly debatable – we suspect not.

Either ways, the level of protection offered by Corsair’s PIN USB flash drive is undoubtedly better than no protection whatsoever and so would serve admirably as the first level of what really ought to be a multi-layered form of defence.

The Corsair USB PIN Flash Drive comes in 1GB or 2GB flavours and further information can be obtained from Corsair’s Website.
