I remember being young, partially because it was back in the days when digital watches were still considered cool and when you purchased the music you liked on plastic discs (how absurd). It was also when I used to spend hours at the Hi-Fi recording radio shows with my finger on the pause button whilst trying to second guess when the DJ would talk so I could edit him/her out – with limited success.
Times have changed, of course, what with the advent of such technological wonders as Compact Discs and digital recording. But now, thanks to the boffins at Hammacher Schlemmer you can relive your misspent youth in a somewhat updated style thanks to this handy MP3 Radio Recorder.
Of course, this is by no means the first gadget to offer this function, but what’s nice about this particular device is that the recording module can be removed from its base station for remote use as an MP3 player and as a digital voice memo recorder for use in board meetings, lectures and such like – the resulting recordings thus being uploadable to your computer on your return.
The base station itself offers 400 presets, digital AM/FM and shortwave reception as well as the ability to pick up Ham radio broadcasts and two-way marine and aviation transmissions and comes complete with an inbuilt digital clock, three alarms and a digital NOAA weather band allowing the device to access all seven National Weather Service stations throughout the US.
Naturally, with a device as fully featured as this, the chaps at Hammacher Schlemmer obviously stayed up night after night thinking of a name for this versatile device that would serve to adequately convey its rich feature set; the result being the “Radio to MP3 Recorder”. (Hammacher Schlemmer’s naming conventions, which seem to be based on the ‘tell it like it is’ principal, never cease to amuse me).
The Radio to MP3 Recorder retails for $179.95.
