Have you ever wondered what the impact of having your television, DVD and cable box on standby is? Or have you ever wondered just how much it’s costing you to have the computer running whilst the washing machine’s on and the wife is watching a shopping channel on the TV? This cool home gadget will allow you to do just that.
The Wattson is a hand held wireless device that will monitor you electricity usage and will show you either the total combined wattage being used or just how much your consumption is costing you via an inbuilt LED display. And, if you want to analyse or keep a log of your electricity consumption the Wattson can even be hooked up to your computer via a USB connection to allow the data to be unloaded.
As we understand it, the Wattson works by receiving data wirelessly from a remote sensor that attaches to the main electricity cable that enters your home and Firebox – who are due to stock the Wattson from September – state that this sensor will be easy enough to install without calling on an electrician.
One especially neat feature of the Wattson is that the device has a lighing unit built in that will indicate whether your present consumption is especially heavy by glowing red so that you can see what’s eating the juice and take proactive measures to counteract it - very cool.
The Wattson will retail for £149.99 when it goes on sale in Q4 this year.
