Some things in life can be relied upon. For instance, if you have planned a BBQ in advance you can pretty much rest assured that, come the occasion, it’ll rain. You can also be sure that on the one day you forget your cell phone your car will break down and you’ll find yourself stranded in the middle of nowhere. You can also rely on Hammacher Schelemmer to come up with some of the most bizarrely styled gadgets and contraptions known to man at prices that cause your wallet to succumb to involuntary spasms.

Never ones to let us down, Hammacher Schelemmer have done it again with the release of their Pedal boat designed to resemble a cruiser which manages to be cool (though not quite this cool) whilst being, in essence, hopelessly uncool. How do they do it?

Another thing Hammacher Schelemmer can be relied upon for is their ‘tell it like it is’ product naming conventions. So, rather than something inspiring such as the ‘Sea Fox III Beta’ (okay, that isn’t especially inspiring – but you get my drift) they’ve called this…(wait for it)… the Lake & Sea Pedal Boat.

Capable at transporting you at speeds of 4mph, dependent on your level of fitness, the Lake & Sea Pedal Boat is not something you’d want to try water skiing behind but that’s hardly the point. This is intended for relaxing (which translates, in this case, as being utterly exhausting) trips across your local lake as you admire the wife life overtaking you, safe in the knowledge that not only are you giving those legs a serious work out, but you’re offering nothing in the way of pollution to the environment.

Moulded from polyethylene, the 12’ 12”, 325lb Lake & Sea Pedal Boat comes with a windshield (at these sorts of speeds sound aerodynamics are paramount), a retractable canopy and even an on-board, padded swimming platform for diving or abandoning ship.

The price of this Lake & Sea Pedal Boat? A cool $3500 plus an extra $350 by way of shipping costs.
