Community Surfing with the Meraki Solar Powered Wi-Fi Kit

For those of you looking for good Wi-Fi outdoor coverage, or for those looking to share internet access with there neighbours, Meraki may have come up with the ideal solution in the form of this weatherproof, solar powered Wi-Fi kit.

Acting as an outdoor repeater when paired with an indoor Wi-Fi unit, the Meraki Networks Solar Powered Wi-Fi Kit can extend Wi-Fi connectivity by up to a further 700 feet when mounted externally either on a wall or a pole and, in gaining its required energy from solar power the device does away with the need to wire up it up to an external power supply.

Billed as being the first solar powered Wi-Fi repeater on the market, the device comes with 2x 100Mbit Ethernet ports, dual SSID enabling it to support both private and public networks via the same connection and can even offer a greatly enhanced range of up to 8-18 miles with an additional antenna.

The Meraki Solar Powered Wi-Fi Kit is due for release this summer and is cited to retail for a mere $99.
