Following on from the Shock Absorber Pen featured in our previous post, I could not allow this piston kit to go unmentioned (which, incidentally, is available from the same online retailer) as anyone with any interest in engines or basic mechanics cannot fail to love this great animated ornament.
Ideal for teaching young children the basic mechanics behind engines, or just as a distinctly unique office gadget, this kit, once assembled, results in a piston will actually work by steam alone simply by placing it on top of cup of boiling water.

One of the most unique ornaments we’ve come across, this piston kit retails for approximately $107 (excluding shipping) and can be purchased from this Korean online retailer.

I used to have a miniature steam-powered engine when I was a kid. It was a great toy and very educational as well. I have to recommend anything like this for any budding engineers.
