Viper Hunter Killer RobotWe are, as a species, seemingly obsessed with finding evermore ingenious ways with which not only to take life, but to take life in an ever evolving desensitised manner.

And, to that end, it is interesting to note that the Israeli company Elbit Systems Ltd have just revealed a robot called the VIPeR (nice, trendy use of capitalisation) which is capable of carrying a host of equipment from bomb-sniffing and disposal devices to grenades, pistols and even Uzi submachine guns.

The tracked robot, which is controlled remotely, comes complete with an on-board camera to enable the aiming of its weapons as it enters regions felt unsafe for infantry in a bid to root out enemy combatants.

We here at TFTS cannot help but find it curious how the media seems to be obsessed by the violence in video games when it would appear that modern warfare seems to be rapidly evolving into an evermore depersonalised and surely, therefore, desensitised remotely operated death match.

Viper Hunter Killer Robot Detail

Just how long it will be before robots face each other across the battlefield is anyone’s guess, but with the routine use of UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) and developments such as the VIPeR it may not be as distant a prospect as we would otherwise imagine.
