The Open Source OpenMoko Cell Phone
In an interesting development, it looks as though the iPhone may (or may not) have a serious contender to deal with in the form of the Linux based OpenMoko FIC Neo1973 – (not a name that trips off the tongue with any particular panache, it must be said).
Of course other mobile phone manufactures are already using Linex based technology, such as Motorola, however the difference with the OpenMoko FIC Neo1973 is that, unlike these other phones, the system is completely open to developers to work with thus ensuring a raft of future customisations.
Add to that a 2.8 inch 480*640 touchscreen display,128MB of SDRAM, 64MB of NAND flash memory (with a microSD slot for memory upgradeability) and you have a cell phone to be reckoned with.
