The World’s Fastest HDD

HDDAs if the poor old hard disk isn’t worked hard enough by us – you can see how hard they work on our behalf in this video – Seagate have now upped the stakes by producing the world’s fasted harddisk.

The 15,000 RPM 2.5 inch harddisks come in 38GB and 73GB flavours and boast access speeds of a mere 2.9ms which, though falling way short of how fast I nod my head when offered a beer when it’s someone else’s round for a change, is still pretty impressive.

These may be fast but the capacity seems a little on the low side especially when you consider the fact that the very same company is also releasing the frankly enormous one Terabyte Barracuda.

It would appear that performance comes at the cost of size, which is something I’ve been telling the wife for years and, in that respect at least, I’d like to thank Seagate for the reassurance.
