ASUS W5Fe Notebook Series

ASUS W5Fe Notebook SeriesOne of the most annoying things about notebooks is the fact that you have to open them and power them up in order to gain even the most simple of information, such as your latest emails or your daily schedule, but, thanks to Asus, this is no longer the case as their latest W5Fe series of notebook computers feature an independent screen housed externally on the notebook’s casing.

It’s such a fantastically simple idea that one wonders why it’s taken so long for a vendor to come up with it – after all a host of mobile phones manufacturers have been utilising secondary external displays for some considerable time with great success.

The W5Fe’s external display, consisting of a 2.8 inch QVGA TFT, will not only offer at a glance information such as schedules and latest emails but can also operate as a slideshow, a media player and, cleverly, can also act as a navigational display thus ensuring that you get to that critical meeting on time.

It’s undoubtedly a cool idea, however with the latest advances in mobile phone technology and functionality one cannot help but think that perhaps the idea may not prove quite as popular as may otherwise have been the case – after all the latest smart phones, such as the N series from Nokia, offer all this as well as full GPS functionality. Nevertheless, it’s good to see the idea of a secondary screen implemented in a notebook at last.
