The moment I came across this product my heart skipped a beat. Now this could be due to one of two things, the first being that I’m soon to depart this mortal coil and the second – which, frankly, is my personal preference – being that this is one of the coolest things I’ve seen in at least the last few hours.
The Picoo Z remote controlled helicopter is not only the lightest commercially available RC helicopter in the world, but it is also the smallest – being no bigger than the palm of your hand - which means that you can fly it around your front room, or even upstairs (no doubt on a secret CIA mission extract the wife from the laundry basket).
What seals this for me, however, is the price – which came as quite a surprise.
You can read more about this rather wonderful device, as well as view a video of it in action, after the jump.
The Picoo z Micro Helicopter, which is constructed from expanded Polypropylene, weighs in at a mere 10 grams and measures only six inches in length and not only does it fly exactly like its far more expensive counterparts but it also has a working blue LED strobe light (and as regular readers of TFTS will know, anything with a blue LED is a must have as far as this site is concerned).
Unlike its larger counterparts, however, the Picoo Z also incorporates an auto-stability system that should, in theory, allow even the most novice of users to at least take off before smashing into a wall.

And the shock is that you get all this for a mere $39 from this site - which, I have to say, is a remarkable price (and I should stress that I’m not affiliated with the company in any shape or form).
This has just gone straight to the top of my “must haves” purchase list.
Incidentally, if you would like to see what the pros can do with RC helicopters, you may find this video post of interest.

$39?!? This is the perfect stocking-stuffer, literally.
Her indoors has given the secret nod (lol), so my order should be in this weekend (I really want one - just hope they ship to the UK). The price is amazing, isn’t it - I expected it to be at least 3 times more when I first came across it.
This is one of those things you buy for your children and the children then never get a look in, isn’t it.

UPDATE: UK based readers can now purchase this wonderful mini RC helicopter from our the UK part of our online shop which is accessible via the top menu bar of via the link in the sidebar.
my mini helecopter won’t stop turning left does anyone know what to do about it
Hi,
We have one and we solved the problem by carefully twisting the tail rotor a little (via the tail boom) - cannot quite remember which way but fairly sure it was so it was pointing up just a little.
You could always change the co-pilot to one who has more Conservative political leanings.
A good point and eminently preferable to choosing a pilot from the middle ground on the basis that you’d only just get to remember his name before he was replaced with another. (This won’t make much sense unless you happen to be following UK political news, alas).
believe it or not…. my dog ate the copter body on day 2 of ownership. anyone know if I can get a replacement???
Hi Brenda,
Did you video the demise of your helicopter?
I ask because I suspect, with a little editing, it would have looked like some sort of B-movie and would have proven quite popular on YouTube.
Getting a replacement body is going to prove difficult I suspect, and so I doubt that there’s any way forward other than purchasing a new one.
My picoo z wont lift off it just buzzes around the floor…any ideas ??
this is awesome. it is amazing how small and agile this thing is. whoever invented this thing i some kind of genius. how it has all the functions of a more expensive helicopter is really coll, and the price is the best thing:)
I’ve got a couple of these and they’re cool toys… but nothing compared to a larger heli.
