Thanks to the German Institute for Condom Consultancy traditional roll-on condoms – including the “Quick Draw” Pronto Condom – could soon become a thing of the past as they are presently in the process of developing a spray-on latex condom that should revolutionise the technicalities involved in practicing barrier methods of safe sex.
The concept centers on a device into which the man (somewhat cautiously) inserts his manhood which subsequently spays on a latex coating from four independent nozzles – thus ensuring complete coverage in a fashion that is described, somewhat crudely, as being similar to a car wash.
It is hoped that the spray on condom could be made available commercially by as early as 2008, however, in order to gain certification the device must be proven to provide complete protection by ensuring even and total coverage so as to form a dependable contraceptive barrier.
Pricing is presently being envisaged at around €20 mark for the multi-use applicator and a further €10 for the latex cartridge inserts – each of which should provide up to 20 separate applications (so that’s one night’s activity sorted for the sex machines amongst you then).
If you would like to assist in the development of this device, according to the official product site the manufactures are presently looking for volunteers to test their spray-on condom in the wild, so to speak. You can gain further information concerning this fascinating device as well as offer yourself as a guinea pig, should you so wish, via this link (please note that the link provided is to the English translation of the German site).

This sounds really risky. What if it misses a spot?
Hi Stu how are you? – yes that would be my concern too. I expect this is going to be one of the biggest headaches concerning the further development of this product before it hits the shelves.
I suppose they could implement some system that makes the edges change colour or something to highlight any “breaches in defense”. It’ll certainly be interesting to see how this develops and whether it manages to gain certification as “safe” contraceptive means.
I hope it also sprays on the good old “reservoir tip”. That’s pretty important I think.
I’m not sure if I’m a big fan of spraying some forming latex on myself. This is gonna have a tough time catching on, I think.
Okay – two replies here.
1. Worm – please stop being so witty that it makes me look dull lol
2. Hi PSW – I must admit I like it from a technological point of view and I would try it even though my wife and I are trying for children (so an argument will ensue). That said, if I\’m asked whether I would trust this as a sole means of protection then I would need a little more reassurance from the manufacturers and some stats (you can\’t beat a good set of stats).
Would I trust this if I were single and playing around (so to speak). No.
Spray on condoms? Oh the risks!
Missing a spot wouldn’t bother me as much as it ‘ripping’, or a low sense of durbability.
as well as the level of semen it can intake before bursting through the condom.
Thanks for taking time to comment, Josh – nice to hear from you.
Yes, this is a concern – just how does it contain the stuff without the reservoir tip, as Worm rightly points out. And, surely, without this, its going to be prone to leakage?
It will be interesting to see how they get round this from a design perspective.
Ladies and Gents,
Finally someone is using their proper head to come out with a contraceptive that meets form, fit and function. I’m sure that the company will have to have clinical trials (sign me up) to make sure that these special made-to-order-on-the-spur-of-the-moment condoms will in fact do what they are suppose to do. (1) Thickness will be a major factor. Someone on viagra could possibly wear this type of condom down real quick which would increase the risks of pregnancy. (2) The reservoir for semen would have to adapt to theose individuals that can expel more than your normal 2 tablespoons. Year 2008 will be an interesting year.
that sounds like a great idea
if it works i will be having sex with everyone
Go get ‘em Tiger – of course that’s working on the assumption that ‘everyone’ also wants sex with you and, I’m afraid to say, that’s reasonably unlikely.
hahhaha i wonder what happens if you spray it on before you get an erection i can see this appearing on a BDSM site!
What type of chemicals is this made from? Do you need to rinse off and reapply before going for a second round? Guys say they feel less with a condom on, is this going to allow them to feel more or the same as with a condom?
I guess guys would be willing to try this. I don’t think I could.
The method sounds good but what about the different size penis ,and can it be used under water .what does one use to get it off once you have” done the deed.”
Hi Craig,
I believe the applicator unit will take most sizes though not exactly certain how (air inflation on an inner tube perhaps?).
As for whether it can be used underwater and how it’s removed after the deed is done, I assume standard condom rules/conditions apply.
Like many here, however, uncertain whether I would trust it – would you?
