Scan 3XS AM2 Isotope ComputerThere was a time when the only way to own a computer that wasn’t merely a rather non-descript beige box was to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty but, thankfully, times have changed and now, thanks to companies like Scan you can own a computer that, rather than tucking away under a desk, you’ll want to exhibit with pride.

Built around the latest Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe ATX motherboard and the advanced AM2 chipset, this high-end gaming system boasts an AMD Dual Core 64 4200+ processor, 1GB of RAM, a nVidia 256MB 7600GT graphic card, a Soundblaster X-Hi Xtreme soundcard and 160GB SATA300 harddisk – all for very reasonable £1142.62.

However as tempting as this piece of kit is, personally I’d hold off until after Vista has been released and has settled so as to be sure of getting a system that is optimised for the new operating system – especially with respect to fully direct X10 compliant graphics cards. (That said, this is merely my opinion and others may feel differently).

This thing looks amazing and I would love to own.. the case.
Quite honestly, from the specs the system itself is just a bit above mediocre IMO. I mean, 1 GB of RAM??

I would also hold off on buying this. If only for the fact that Intel is launching their quad-cores soon. They’ll be -giving- away dual cores next year.

I agree completely. In comparison with other \”high-end\” gaming platforms (such as some of the quad SLI machines out there) this is rather mediocre in spec. It\’s a fetching design though.

DX10 is my major concern as far as buying a machine now is concerned, though, beyond a doubt - hence me holding off on selling the wife for the time being to raise the cash for my next system.
