For those of us who have pets it would be true to say that they occupy a rather special place in our life. Always there, always dependable – and equally dependant on us – a terrible day at the office can all but fade into obscurity as we open our front doors to be greeted by their eyes staring up at us (except if your pet’s a fish, in which case it probably forgets who you are every five seconds and subsequently really doesn’t give a damn anyway).
But what happens when our pet dies? If it’s a fish then we can flush him down the toilet (the special gateway to pet heaven) but, in all honesty, if your pet is a cat or a dog it’s probably going to cause quite a blockage and occasion a few raised eyebrows from your plumber. Alternatively, you could always bury them in the garden only to have them dug up again by nextdoor’s pet or accidentally unearth them a year later when you help your kid plant a tree (the resulting psychological impact on the child being blamed ten tears later when they display an unhealthy, psycho-sexual interest in taxidermy).
Perhaps an altogether more practical and sensible solution would be to purchase the Pet’s Ashes Picture Frame so you can keep their memory alive on the sideboard.
This rather unique picture frame, produced by Oxford Coffins, features a secret compartment in which your pet’s ashes can be stored, in a small plastic folder, behind your favourite picture of them biting your now ex-husband or getting jiggy with your girlfriend’s calf muscle.

Simply send the company the picture of your choosing and they’ll frame it and post it back to you ready for you to fill the hidden ashes folder contained within with the remains of your dearly departed or, if the vet’s disposed of them, and you want to convince the children otherwise, a couple of spoonfuls from your vacuum’s dust bag ought to suffice.
Interestingly, the company also appears to offer a bespoke service for pets not otherwise catered for, so if you have a horse you can still retain their ashes – though you’ll need a fairly large mantle piece.
Prices for standard pets start at £39.99 and, if you want to know more, you can visit the official product page via this link.
