Of late forest fires have made the news on an all too regular occurrence and, for backpackers, campers and even casual walkers, one of the greatest concerns must surely be getting caught up in one of these sweeping infernos.
This is where the Flaresafe could transpire to be a life saver as, quite apart form being a run of the mill torch, this clever and extremely compact device actually transpires to be a high power LED torch which not only also features an inbuilt smoke alarm but also has an integral SOS distress alarm that will sound at an ear-shattering 110db should you find yourself in trouble.
Cleverly, though the Flaresafe requires three batteries to operate, only two of these batteries are actually used during day to day standard use thus keeping the third battery as a reserve power unit so that, even if the other batteris have been drained the unit will still function in case of an emergency (powering the smoke alarm and the sonic distress alarm).

The Flaresafe consists of these three main componants:
- A High Power LED Torch – can be set to work in full beam, half beam or flashing modes.
- A Smoke Alarm – in the event of smoke being detected, the Flaresafe will signal an alarm and the torch will power up( allowing you to locate the unit quickly, even at night).
- An SOS Sonic Alarm – In the event of an emergency (such as a fire, or if you are attacked) the sonic alarm can be activated and will sound at a piercing 110db. As well as the audible alarm the torch will also flash.
The Flaresafe, which is surely a must have for those who like to get out and about, is available from this site and costs around £50.
