Paint.net – The Free Photoshop Alternative
Just a quick heads up for those of us who cannot afford the undisputed master of imaging programs, namely Photoshop. The good news is that version 3.0 of Paint.net is now available – and the great news is that it’s free.
Weighing in at a mere 3.6MB download, and programmed in C# and C++, Paint.net offers a considerable range of tools – including layers, unlimited undo and numerous special effects – that will certainly cater for the majority of users looking either to manipulate imagery or to touch up images prior to uploading to websites, or prior to including in documentation, etc.

System Requirements:
- Windows XP (SP2 or later),
or Windows Vista,
or Windows Server 2003 (SP1 or later) - .NET Framework 2.0
- 500 MHz processor (Recommended: 800 MHz or faster)
- 256 MB RAM (Recommended: 512 MB or more)
- 1024 x 768 screen resolution
- 200+ MB hard drive space
- 64-bit support requires a 64-bit CPU that is running an x64 edition of Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows Server 2003, and 384 MB RAM
