They say (whoever “they” are) that looks aren’t everything and, whilst I wholly agree with the sentiment, I think most of us have come to the stark conclusion that on the whole this is complete and utter nonsense. For as long as I remember, certainly, it would seem that looks are pretty much everything and this car, available from the renowned Hammacher Schlemmer website, serves as a fitting testament to this.
On appearance alone, would you part with your hard earned money to be seen in this vehicle? I suspect not. Any yet this car inspires another of those sayings to come to mind, and that is “appearances can be deceptive”.
This curious electric vehicle is no wider than your average motorcycle and so will enable you to zip in and out of traffic congested with an ease that is bound to rattle fellow motorists. It is also compact enough to park perpendicular to the curb.
But, in fairness, there is nothing particularly striking about this.
Perhaps it’s the fact that, as an electric car, this vehicle produces no emissions and can travel between 40 and 80 miles on a single charge?
No, that’s not it.
Nor is it the fact that the driver and the passenger sit in tandem, strapped in by four point harnesses similar to those used in racing cars and are protected by a chrome moly roll cage – again, that’s not it, but we are getting closer.

So, how about if I tell you that this car can accelerate from a standstill to 60mph in an mere four seconds and has a top speed of 120mph courtesy of two electric motors that, combined, produce over 1000 lbf ft of torque? Or that the body panels are made with not only carbon fibre but also Kevlar? Or that the fact that the car’s batteries are mounted so low in the chassis that the car has gained a rollover threshold equivalent to a 5 Star Safety Administration Rating in the US?

Zero emissions – one does 0-60 in 4 seconds, the other
is an open-top with 360 degree aircon,
serious boot space and costs
significantly less.
Beauty may only be skin deep but, as spectacular and genuinely astounding as these facts are, I still wouldn’t be see dead in one of these – would you?
And if your answer to the above question is “yes” then would you pay $108,000 USD for the privilege?
I thought not.

I’m all in favor of electric/hyrid cars, but this thing is a bit extreme. I don’t think I would feel safe in this car at all. Not to mention I wouldn’t feel very cool either… and cool is everything.
completely unrelated: Andrew, In response to your cover-girl comment on my site, I present to you, the Thoughts from the Sidelines and Wormbrain cover girls..

Hi Worm – already saw these just now on your site. I bet you told them that this was “just the beginning” of a world of opportunities, didn’t you? lol.
Actually, if TFTS did have a cover girl then I would hope that she would have point blank refused to have stood by this “contraption” saying something like “I have my limits, you know.”
And I would have respected this completely.
What a terrible piece of design! The only benefit of it managing to rack up 120 on the clock, the way I see it, is that hopefully no one you know would see you pass them in it.
I’ll settle for the shopping trolley.
Price?
Will you be willing to lower?
Andi – we don’t have control over the price, you’ll have to speak to the vendor as linked.
