Regardless of the image you try to portray, a person’s home, and in particular the items within it, can either work to cement the image that you have built for yourself or simply strip away the very foundations.
For a geek, their home should be a showcase of the unique, the advanced and the modern. After all, wearing a binary watch and owning the latest cell phone could pale into insignificance if you invite someone back and they find porcelain ducks on the wall and a pair of tartan slippers.
Of course, few of us are in a position to style our homes to reflect our ideal but, there is no harm in dreaming – besides, you never know, perhaps that big lottery win is just around the corner.
In this post, the second to feature in the Ultimate Geek Accessories category, we’ll look at three items that should see any true geek positively salivating – from a rather unique ornament to a bed that defies gravity. Let us dream together.
The TileVision Bathroom TV

For those of you who can’t live without a television in every room (as this is obviously a few of you as it is now reported that there are more TV sets in America – for example – then there are people) then the TileVision Television could be of considerable appeal. However, for those who can live without a television in every room – and I count myself amongst them – this still appeals if only from a geek perspective.
The TileVision is a 17” widescreen TFT LCD television that can be wall mounted in any bathroom or shower unit as it is completely waterproof (being operated only by a waterproof remote handset) and, cleverly, even has a heated screen so as to avoid condensation. Far from being just for show, the TileVision boasts an impressive range of specifications.
- 450cd high brightness picture with a contrast ratio of 800:1
- 17″ (434mm) diagonal widescreen with 170° viewing angle
- 100 Programme Memory with auto and full manual tuning

The Gravity Defying Bed

The floating bed, designed by Dutch architect Janjaap Ruijssenaars, literally floats magically in space with no obvious signs of support.
Suspended in the air courtesy of a series of high-powered magnets and held in place by four restraining cables so as to stop the bed from slipping from the magnetic force, the floating bed will support up to 900kg in weight.
The one disadvantage of this bed is that you will no longer be able to throw all your rubbish under it and get away with pretending that the room is tidy. Then again, with a price tag of a staggering €1,200,000, if you can afford this I am sure that you could also afford an intelligent storage solution to resolve this issue.
The McLaren Mercedes F1 Shark

The true geek chooses ornaments with care and attention. Focusing on the modern and the unique, every item in the thoroughbred geek’s house is chosen and placed to stimulate the eye and the mind. And, this ornament from the German site Galerie Frank Schlag & Cie captures the true essence of a geek ornament to perfection.
Constructed from wood and steel and finished with acrylic lacquer, The McLaren Mercedes F1 Shark, in combining the modern form of an F1 car with the sleek, natural lines of a shark, is sure to turn anyone’s eye – whether a motor racing fan or not.
