Video of Severe Crosswind Landings

crosswind header imageThe majority of us, at one point or another, will have had the rather disconcerting experience of being caught in turbulence whilst flying and enduring that feeling that our stomach is somewhere it the cabin between the roof and the floor.

This quality video features of a series of landings being attempted at an airfield in Portugal during extremely heavy crosswinds – with a number of landings being aborted due to sudden heavy gusts. Why on earth this runway wasn’t closed in these horrifying conditions is a conversation point in itself.

One thing is certain, however, and that is the degree of skill required by the pilots concerned to actually make the runway. I cannot even begin to imagine what the experience was like for the passengers on board these aircraft though.

To enjoy the full experience, turn up the sound and try leaning with the aircraft. Youll look a little stupid, but hey….Enjoy.
