The USB memory stick has rapidly become a d’ rigour accessory of late. No longer considered merely a toy for geeks, the sheer versatility of the USB memory stick has seen its sales escalate considerably as we look to carry more and more data about with us, whether it be spreadsheets and presentations for work or video clips to show friends.
With the popularity of these devices on the rise, and the cost of memory on the fall, it is inevitable that some have looked to offer memory sticks that are a little out of the ordinary and, in this post, we’ll take a brief look at some of the more curious manifestations on offer – which may get you noticed, though not necessarily for being a style icon.

The Sushidisk USB Stick
Available in kappa-maki or cucumber roll, ikura or salmon roe, tekka-maki or tuna roll, uni or sea urchin, maguro or tuna, the Sushidisk offers up to 2 gigabytes of memory with the added bonus of being a handy, ready made snack for those constantly on the go.
Admittedly, from an aesthetic point of view, these look good enough to eat (excuse the pun) but quite why anyone would actually want to have a USB stick partially implanted in some sushi eludes me.

The i-Duck USB Stick
Who could possibly be without the i-Duck, a USB stick moulded to a plastic duck that glows when connected to your computer? Unfortunately the relevant sound effects are not provided. Still, if you’re considering purchasing one of these I am sure you’re not adverse to making it feel quite at home with some quirky impressions of your own.
The site can be visited here.

The Swiss Army Knife USB Stick
Somewhat more practical than either of the previous entries – albeit not edible like the Sushidisk – the Swiss Army Knife USB offers the usual wealth of tools as well as the memory functionality of a USB dongle. With capacities from 64MB to 1GB it is handy to know that if you ever find yourself stuck in the middle of a rain forest you’ll still have access to your personal files – though the fact that you may have packed your laptop at the expense of your tent may transpire to be cause for concern.
Available at numerous sites, just Google on “Swiss Army USB”.

The USB Watch
Available in capacities ranging from 64 to 256MB, the USB watch offers a retractable cord with USB attachment so that you can connect to your computer without even taking your watch off. One to impress the ladies? (Well, no actually).
The USB watch is available at most gadget stores.
The Thumb USB Stick
Not a USB Stick you want protruding from your trouser pocket, I would have thought – could be a little embarrassing. Interestingly, the product site appears to show that this has been discontinued. I’m devastated.

The Teddy Bear USB Stick
This appears to be a user creation, as I am unable to locate a site that actually sells these. This teddy bear features a USB stick that only becomes accessible by pulling the bear’s head off. One to scare the children with.

Brilliant post. I have wondered when someone would create a funky memory stick. I particuarly like the duck one! Fantastic.
Stellar – thank you very much for the feedback, and taking time to comment, it is most appreciated. I am glad you liked the post.
