Thoughts from the Sidelines is just over a week old, and what a week it’s been. From its conception I had hoped that the sort of posts I envisaged writing would appeal to a few other people apart from the chap who resides in my garden shed who demands a hefty backhander for every page he views, and, to my great amazement, this has indeed transpired to be the case.
Within a week of being launched, Thoughts from the Sidelines has received approximately two-hundred and fifty hits, excluding admin visits (and this is allowing for the fact that my hits counter appeared to go on an extended holiday for a number of hours yesterday, much to my consternation).
Is it “bad form” to openly offer thanks to anyone who has dropped by this site? Of that I am uncertain, but I feel compelled to offer my thanks to everyone who has visited this site since its realisation as, without you, I would simply be speaking to myself – and, in light of the fact that I’ve been doing that for years, I have long since learned that when I start speaking to myself it’s a good time to go out for a beer and leave myself to it.
Of course, this site is nowhere comparable to the big-hitters in the blogging community, but this site is only young and, to be frank, it was never set up to supplement my salary in any shape or form – there will be no advertising here. This site was set up because I have a passion for trying to make news, in whatever form it takes, exciting. And I hope, in some way, and to some degree, this is proving to be the case.
Time will tell.
From here I will continue to buy out newsagent’s stands in a bid to find stories that may be of interest – our house looks like the national library – and, sat at this computer, in my corner of the world, the inevitable beer in hand, I will try to feed what I believe is interesting to anyone who stops by.
I would say that the only way is up, but I know that, unless I continue to work to provide content that interests people, this will not necessarily be the case. But if, and only if, the success of this weblog is a measure of the passion with which it is run, then I would hope that this is only the beginning.
Wherever you are in the world, thank you for visiting this site.

Keep it up man! I’m certainly no expert and I’m still new at this, but your site seems to have all the makings of a great blog. You update frequently, you write intelligently and you make custom graphics. So you’re already head and shoulders above most bloggers.
If I may comment on your style: you write with a humble honesty that’s refreshing and interesting to read.
Of course, your blog will never be as great as mine simply because I’m cooler.
(I had to throw that in for balance, this post had too much kiss-ass in it)
Keep blogging!
Worm - thank you for that, and for the interest you show in this site. Perhaps, one day, we could start a joint venture - you never know.
